Sweet! Strawberries ripe for the picking

If the big juicy fruit in Bill Bauer's strawberry fields are any indication, this is going to be a sensational season. Wednesday morning, Bauer Berry Farm in Champlin was packed with people in search of strawberries. "Everybody wants big berries," said Bauer Berry Farm owner Bill Bauer. "I've been coming here for about 15 years, and this is probably one of the better years," said Diane Yell. Yell didn't mind putting in the time to find succulent strawberries. She picked berries for an hour and a half, and filled three boxes full of strawberries. Bauer says Mother Nature has been kind to his farm the past couple years. "This year is probably the second best, our best was last year," said Bauer. Bauer said this year’s strawberry season may be a little shorter. He expects picking to be good at least until July 4. "They're Minnesota berries and there's nothing better than picking Minnesota berries, " said Yell.
