Marshall Haze 40 JCM 800 plus mod

JCM800 mod is on many forums. I had some issues with the normal mod- 1. Amp was very unstable with gain above half and would create blocking distortion with no input. 2. clean channel would fart out in C tuning on bass strings. Here is my mod which is based on the original: 1st stage (clean and dist) 1. Replace R59 with 220k 2. Replace R23 with 2.7K 3. Replace C20 with 470nf. More than this caused the clean to fart out. Dist stages: 1. C48 populate with a 470pf 2. C72 replace with 1nF 3. R65 add a .47uF cap in parallel with it 4. Add a 470pf cap in parallel with R44 To fix the blocking dist and oscillation from the orig mod: 4. Add a 1M resistor between the non-grid side of R41 and to the ground side of R65 5. Replace R41 grid stopper with a 500k resistor Power amp: Replace R104 with a 100k resistor. This is the feedback resistor. Some may want to include a variable resistor/knob here to play with the overall feedback as some settings will be more like a plexi and others more compressed. Whatever man. Other changes from original mod: 1. Leave in the original R38 resistor and don't change it 2. Keep C73 capacitor in the amp. It really cuts down on the Hiss when high vol gain is used and you really only notice the difference when playing quiet that the amp isn't super bright anymore. I still think it's plenty bright btw. Notes on vid and stuff for ppl who care about things: -I plugged straight into the amp with an esp 7 string with Duncan designed chinese pickups. Pretty much anything you have should sound better. -I didn't spend very long messing with the gain or eq for the vid, and the channels share an EQ so that's really saying something about how easy it is to make this sound good. Any slight preferences you have about sharpness/roundness can easily be achieved by messing with the lows, which I like to keep down on the dist. -The pick attack on the clean is small and tight and crazy good, really fast sharp response. no Joke best amp I've ever heard on the clean. My TSL is better but it has to be louder and have the right speakers, and I also spent like 400$ in transformers on it. If you wanted the clean even better I would consider making C20 even smaller, but it quickly starts to effect the overdrive channel negatively since they share that stage. It's a taste call. -Stock Marquee speaker is actually pretty good. No doubt if you changed it the amp would sound way different. I find T series magnets to be the most different sounding speaker mags out there. Not bad, just very different response. -Stock tubes were used but I bet they are low hours because they didn't have a spec of dust or dirt on them. Also, Bias from the factory was waaaaay off so be sure to do this no matter what if you pick up a Haze.
