Trains on the Norfolk Southern Harrisburg Line Summer 2015 was shot between Reading and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, from the first day of summer in June to the middle of July 2015. As always, there will be a video from the latter half of summer to follow. Train descriptions, and the time they appear in the video are listed below. We'd be more than thrilled by your extra support! 0:40 - (Skip Intro) 6/22/15 - An ACe and a pair of High-Hood GP38-2's pull manifest train 38J east near MP 81.5. 38J was a short-lived train symbol that pulled extra tonnage for Camden, NJ that did not run on 14G. For the most part, this train was always 90% fuel loads of various sorts. 0:40 - 38J - Bellevue, OH - Abrams, NJ NS SD70ACe 1154 NS GP38-2 5002 NS GP38-2 5124 Later that evening at Prescott, H31 glides west with another high-hood GP38-2 pulling the train on its way to shift Lebanon Chemical at 15th Avenue in Avon. 2:00 - H31 - Reading, PA - Local Switcher NS GP38-2 5013 NS GP38-2 5661 6/23/15 - The sun starts to set, illuminating the sky in colors of orange and purple after a storm blew threw. 64K ethanol loads head east through the Sonnen Road crossing by the farmlands just east of Milepost 77. The sky became incredibly dramatic after the train passed once the sun started to hit the horizon, revealing a rare form of mammatus clouds in the sky. Unfortunately, no train traffic was in the block before the sun had set, but made sure to get a shot of the sky before I left (4:15). 2:45 - 64K - Chicago, IL - Seawaren, NJ NS C40-8W 8387 NS C44-9W 9752 6/24/15 - In the sweet light of the morning, 24K, an intermodal train that originated in Rutherford Yard just east of Harrisburg, heads east through downtown Lebanon passing the Reading Company train station. 4:45 - 24K - Rutherford, PA - Morrisville, PA NS C44-9W 9783 NS C40-8W 8436 NS SD40-2 1643 NS C40-8 8748 A couple hours later 10N heads east around the curve just east of Milepost 79, passing a few horses in a field. 6:15 - 10N - Conway, PA - Allentown, PA NS C44-9W 9737 NS SD70M-2 2684 That night at sunset a standard cab SD60 leads 929 Herzog ballast empties through Womelsdorf heading back to Dyers Quarry for a refill. 8:00 - 929 - NS System MoW - Birdsboro, PA (Dyers Quarry) NS SD60 6714 NS C40-9 8800 NS C44-9W 8946 6/28/15 - A former Union Pacific SD90MAC leads 34A through Avon with the "Honoring Our Veterans" trailing, along with many other locomotives from Allentown Yard being taken to Enola Diesel for inspection and repairs. 9:30 - 34A - Allentown, PA - Baltimore, MD (via Enola Yard) NS SD9043MAC 7279 NS SD60E 6920 NS C40-8W 8463 NS ES44DC 7582 NS C44-9W 9702 NS SD40-2 3376 NS SD40-2 6184 NS RPU-6 864 NS SW1001 2104 6/30/15 - A cumulonimbus cloud veils the late afternoon sun as 10N sprints east along a corn field west of Richland in its early stages of growth. The lead unit has a Leslie RS-5T horn which can be heard as the train approaches the crossing in town. 12:00 - 10N - Conway, PA - Allentown, PA NS C44-9W 9564 NS C44-9W 9597 NS ES44AC 8130 7/02/15 - 36Q glides down the hill under the 68 Signal near South Mountain with a Union Pacific GE leading. 13:35 - 36Q - Lindwood, NC - Allentown, PA UP ES44AC 5423 NS C40-9 8775 NS SD40-2 3210 7/10/15 - Morning intermodal train 20E is led by the Nickel Plate Road Heritage Unit. 15:15 - 20E - Chicago, IL (63rd Street) - Croxton, NJ NS ES44AC 8100 BNSF C44-9W 5363 NS C44-9W 9172 7/11/15 - A very smoky SD80MAC leads priority domestic intermodal train 21M west near Milepost 81. I have no idea who that guy was that just kept walking down the tracks. 16:25 - 21M - Croxton, NJ - Chicago, IL (63rd Street) NS SD80MAC 7204 NS C40-8W 8340 NS C44-9W 9570 7/17/15 - An EMD GP60, leads 15T west through Richland on a cloudy late afternoon. GP60's were pulled from mainline service in 2007, so seeing them lead non-local trains is incredibly rare. In fact, this was the first GP60 leader I caught in 8 years. 18:00 - 15T - Allentown, PA - Birmingham, AL NS GP60 7139 NS C40-8W 8330 NS SD60E 6971 Thanks for Watching!
