Welcome to the Next Project, Gretsch inspired guitar build project. 00:00 - lights, camera, action 00:04 - project intro 01:33 - i had a dream 02:02 - master template time 02:36 - contemplate working templates 03:51 - rough cut body form templates 05:03 - body form factory 06:35 - body form glue-up 07:24 - assembly & clean-up 08:03 - what am i doing? i ask myself 10:10 - modification 10:47 - dry-fit test run 12:21 - throw caution to the wind 13:35 - going in the right direction I've had an interest, or fascination, with the Gretsch 6210, Electromatic, 6620, and also the Gibson 335 (broad) styling of guitars for some time. This interest had sparked a desire to "build" a guitar in this general style - over a decade ago. The problem has always been, my belief that building such a guitar was "beyond me", and that feeling my be accurate, but I'm going to build a "learning curve" guitar anyway. This project will be full of "first-time" experiences. Everything from making side forms, to laminating the sides, top and back of this guitar. Making kerfing, installing kerfing, installing a tressel inner structure, making some form of tennon neck (not just a set neck - well, maybe ). Trying new materials, processes and practices. In this episode, a lot of front-end work is done, just to get to a point were actual guitar part building can take place. During this time, I began to feel as if I were building a piece of furniture, or a barn. Anything other than building a guitar. The up-front work really didn't look like a guitar would come from it, and that is largely why I wanted to show you some of the "behind the scenes" efforts that take place. I hope you enjoy the video.
