hello hello my friends, hope everyone is doing alright out here, if you're on a similar seasonal timeline as me i hope you are also enjoying these first glimmers of spring. ok so last night a couple of my friends were so so kind to invite me to see Gustavo Dudamel conduct the NY phil performing Ravel anddd Gershwin's "An American In Paris". I gotta say i am still on a real high from that concert, i was sitting in the fronttttttt row ah. back in high school i played in a really incredible youth orchestra in california, truly to this day its one of the most beautiful things i have ever been a part of. we would have these 6 hour rehearsals every sunday, as a trumpet player you can go hours without making a sound during an orchestra rehearsal, so yes i would doze off sometimes. But! sitting in that ocean of sound every week was a therapy for my mind and soul like nothing else i have ever experienced. i swear every rehearsal at some point i would have tears in my eyes (these kids in the orchestra were like insanely talented) just from being so deeply moved by the music, like my heart would be pounding just surreal everything. the weight of the vibration of sound of one hundred people playing in sync with each other is just soooo out of this world, humans are insane. i truly truly wish everyone could sit in the middle of an orchestra for a symphony at least once in their life, its really something else. it was such a privilege to have the opportunity to exist in that space and im foreverrrr grateful for those days. my brain really flys through space and time throughout the course of listening to a symphony. i fall into such a deep space of listening that my mind is free to roam through all my thoughts. i often get hit with these maybe cliche like thoughts, that i think maybe a lot of people are confronted with when they experience a sense of awe. just like that this is what actually matters, this is the actual human experience. we're bombarded with every made up reason to look at the person next to us and think of all the reasons why they are different than us. buttt then you sit and see what the perfect unity of a hundred very different individuals can do together and you're just like holy s%*&! we waste everything good in this world on disregarding, hating, and not having empathy for other people around us. its sucks, but also i believe that the vast vast vast majority of us on a human level naturally have love for each other. it becomes so obvious when we throw away the scripts of identity we're taught to hide behind. ok maybe this was a cringy cheesy post that doesnt reflect the gravity of everything going on in the world, but i felt a crack in the dense ceiling above me and a little light poked through and i really just wanted to appreciate it for a moment. if you have any chance to experience a moment of awe, maybe sipping tea during a sunset, looking out at an ocean, going to an aquarium and seeing how cool jellyfish are, whatever it is, i really really recommend taking a moment out of your day and doing that. realllly stare at a star and think about how absolutely microscopic we are on this tiny fraction of a grain of sand in an expansive void of whatever the heck this might be, let your brain short circuit on that big thought, take a deep breath and just smile about being here. ok cool cool cool, happy friday everybody. sending lots of love to everyone. i have the coulou's cafe 31-40 coming out on spotify this week, if you wanna check out my music i have a couple of links, maybe this a good week to plug my instagram cause i will be posting about shows and new releases and stuff on there so just a good spot to stay in orbit. / coulou__ you're all amazing, give yourself and someone next to you a hug. love you, coulou LINKS! https://linktr.ee/coulou_
