Explaining how I made my hand operated decoupling machines on my Floating Shelf Challenge layout in N gauge. To make these you will need some florists wire for the actuator rod Some styrene tube with a 1mm inside diameter Some scraps of plasticard or thin styrene sheet. I used some old plastic business cards from my stash. Decide where you want the decoupling machine to go and remove one sleeper. This will give you a space in which the actuator will live. Thread your wire into your tube and bend a shirt U shape into the wire. Cut out some squares of plasticard and glue these onto the wire U.with one edge in line with the axis of the wire. The flap should pivot around this axis. Test and trim and paint black
