Edwin J. McEnelly & His Orchestra – What Are We Waiting For? Fox-Trot (Klages-Kortlander) Vocal refrain by Johnny Marvin, Victor 1928 (USA) NOTE: Edwin J. McEnelly (1879–1958) American violinist and dance bandleader. He founded his first dance band in 1902 in Milford, Massachusetts, and subsequently performed in various New England venues and at Riverside Park, one of the first amusement parks in Massachusetts. McEnelly was proficient on many instruments and played the violin in his band. He was also known for his yodeling, examples of which can be heard in some of his band's recordings. His band enjoyed considerable popularity in the region, where it was nicknamed the "singing band" (this was the band's initial name: Edwin J. McEnelly & His Singing Orchestra). In the early 1920s, the band began regular broadcasts on WBZ and competed in "battles of the bands" against other popular dance orchestras, usually winning. Between 1925 and 1929, McEnelly's orchestra performed 21 outstanding dance sides for Victor. Alas, the Great Depression hit McEnelly's band hard and his declining health forced him to retire. He then worked as a violin teacher and piano tuner until his death in 1958.
