#AppalachianFolk #ChristianFolk #OriginalWorship I recently read the powerful, classic letter by G.D. Watson called "Others May, You Cannot," and I was inspired to write this song. I hope you enjoy it. AnonymousPastorMG You can read it here: https://bible.org/illustration/others... The letter talks about the profound, sometimes difficult truth that God will often restrict those He calls to a closer walk, holding them to a different standard than the people around them. It made me realize that God's holy jealousy can truly be a blessing, though it seems hard to us in the moment. We live in a world that constantly chases the spotlight and the applause of the crowd, likes and accolades. I wrote "The High Calling of God" as a raw, reminder that laying down our own ambitions and yielding to His "sweet control" is never a punishment. It’s how we find a truer, greater treasury in the "quiet shade" of His will. Philippians 3: 13-14 KJV [13] Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, [14] I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. If you enjoy the sound of Appalachian acoustic gospel and songs with deep spiritual roots, I hope this blesses you. Lyrics: [Verse 1] Great people do the things I wanted to, I see the mighty, righteous things they do. But when I try to build my own success, I’m met with rebuke and Godly heaviness. I bow my head and quiet down my soul, And yield to God’s peculiar, sweet control. [Chorus] While others take the glory and the crown, I am compelled to lay all honor down. He keeps me hidden in the quiet shade, Where choice and fragrant, holy fruit is made. A willing prisoner of Christ, I am persuaded, In the high calling of God, newly created. [Verse 2] Let others claim the victories they have won, And stand applauded in the shining sun. Invisible to all but Christ alone, The deeper message of the Cross I've known. Let others seek the treasures of this earth, I’ve found a quiet life of greater worth. [Chorus] While others take the glory and the crown, I am compelled to lay all honor down. He keeps me hidden in the quiet shade, Where choice and fragrant, holy fruit is made. A willing prisoner of Christ, I am persuaded, In the high calling of God, newly created. [Verse 3] He set a jealous watch upon my soul, Rebuking careless words to have His sweet control. He stops my tongue and stays my outstretched hand, In ways that I may never understand. The Holy Ghost deals sweetly with my heart, From every worldly way I must depart. [Chorus] While others take the glory and the crown, I am compelled to lay all honor down. He keeps me hidden in the quiet shade, Where choice and fragrant, holy fruit is made. A willing prisoner of Christ, I am persuaded, In the high calling of God, newly created. [Outro] I’ve settled it forever with my soul, That He alone shall have His full control. My silent heart is pleased and glad to be, Under the watch of Him who rescued me. I press toward the high calling of God, I’ll follow in the way that Jesus trod. A willing prisoner of Christ, I am persuaded, In the high calling of God, newly created. #AcousticGospel #ChristianSingerSongwriter #FolkBallad #TheHighCalling
