In the late 80s, before I was even born, something was happening in the world of video games that would change it for ever. Great minds were dreaming up new opportunities and adventures to take players on, and it culminated in some of the greatest franchises the medium has ever known. I've spent many years, more than half of my life bringing you all my adventures from one such franchise, Final Fantasy. But we all know that this is far from the only show in town, with many other titles worthy of being considered among the greats. One such franchise is of course Dragon Quest, created in 1986 with help from the minds of giants like Yuji Horii and the late great Akira Toriyama. With names like this involved, and a history spanning over 30 years, it's natural for a Final Fantasy fan having completed his journey through the mainline games to want to discover what he's been missing out on over the years. I began this journey in November 2024 with the release of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D, and had a great time. The wonderful artstyle is a fantastic way to revamp these titles while retaining an old school charming feel. The scale and depth of the world, the exploring and adventuring combined with a simple, but timeless story made me appreciate the roots of this historic franchise. It left me wanting to explore it some more and at the least complete the Erdrick Trilogy on the channel. Beyond those titles I may pick and choose some later entries that appeal to my own tastes, but for now the focus is to complete this and have some solid DQ representation on the channel to expand out from the enormous FF archive I have built. In this 1st episode I take some time to get into the story and setup, there is a lot of dialogue and a lot to see and explore from the get-go. The pace will be relaxed and easy to follow, and I will be approaching this title as I do almost every single series you see on the channel: playing it blind and my own way, as if no one was watching. It's how I've done it since the day I started and it's part of what keeps me loving and enjoying the gaming experiences I have for the channel. It makes for some of the best, and the worst moments on the channel but I think it helps to provide an honest, authentic 1st time run from a player discovering a new game for the 1st time.
