Free CCNA Routing | Part 6 - OSPF Routes Welcome to the Free CCNA Training Course. This series is for anyone who wants to build on their basic network skills, and even pass the CCNA 200-301 exam. Section 2 of this series covers Layer-3/Routing. This covers topics like general routing, routing protocols, OSPF, and QoS (Quality of Service). The website has additional links for further study to take you to the next level. Links are at the end of the description. In this video, we’re going to cover: 0:00 OSPF Cost 6:22 The Routing Table 11:27 Default Route OSPF manages multiple paths through the network. It uses a metric called ‘cost’ to decide which paths are better. The SPF algorithm makes the decisions about which are best, and then the best routes are given to the routing table. The cost is found by dividing the reference bandwidth by the interface bandwidth. The reference bandwidth is 100Mbps, which used to be considered fast. These days, we should be changing the reference bandwidth to something higher with the ‘auto-cost’ command. Sometimes we need to tell the router about the real speed of a link. For example, when a 1Gbps interface connects to a 100Mbps WAN link. We do this with the ‘bandwidth’ command. We can also set the OSPF cost on an interface manually if we want to. ECMP (Equal Cost Multipath) is where there are multiple paths with the same cost. When this happens, the routing table will have multiple next-hops for a route, and they will share the load. Often we will want to advertise the networks on an interface, but we won’t want that interface to send and receive hello messages. In this case, we can configure that interface as a passive-interface. This prevents OSPF neighbours forming on that interface. The rule for advertising networks into OSPF is that they have to be in the local routing table first. The default route will often be there due to a static route, or having learned it through BGP. It can be advertised into OSPF with default-information originate [always]. Study Notes (free): https://networkdirection.net/study-no... Transcripts (free): https://networkdirection.net/study-no...
