PUMICE - Is much like perlite, but it has some weight to it, so it wont float up to the top of your soil when you water your plant. But it can be more expensive and harder to find for sale. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07R... VERMICULITE - Acts as a sponge that can hold a lot of moisture. Commonly used in seed starting soil mixes and is great for moisture loving plants. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07B... SPHAGNUM MOSS - Is a SUPER SPONGE. it can hold up to 25X its own weight in water. Commonly used as a substrate for orchids, sometimes mixed with bark. PEAT MOSS - A common base for many pre-mixed potting soils, but it's NOT A RENEWABLE RESOURCE, so I avoid these products in favor of environmentally friendly options, like coco coir! TURFACE - Small bits of fired clay that offer enough weight, good aeration and some moisture retention. LECA - Clay balls filled with holes. BARK CHIPS - Adds a lot of aeration and moisture retention to your mix. commonly used for orchids and in orchid mixes. Also common in tropical mixes, particularly for large plants.
