Firefighters responded to a report of a worker trapped in a well in the 2300 block of Rutland Road around 8:55 a.m. First arriving responders located an employee from a water treatment and well service company who had fallen 40 feet in a well, landing in about 15 feet of water. The employee, a 52-year-old male, was able to prop himself into a position where he was in water that was waist deep. As members of the Special Operations Collapse Rescue Team, assisted by a team from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, prepared equipment to effect a rescue, firefighters began monitoring the air quality of the well and lowered the patient a helmet and personal flotation device. A member of the Collapse Rescue Team entered the well and placed the worker into a harness to be removed from the well. The worker was removed about an hour after the original call to 9-1-1. He was evaluated by paramedics and declined transport to the hospital.
