Basic Operations Demo for this Vintage In-Circuit Transistor Tester. ERRATA: The Basing of the leads is done out of circuit and not in-circuit as I said here. To clarify, the "Cricket Test" can be done in or out of circuit, but the Basing determination (which are collector, base and emitter leads) and the Leakage and Gain Tests cannot be done in-circuit. When doing the Cricket Test in-circuit, however, it not necessary to know which lead is connected to which color probe and it will tell you whether the transistor is PNP or NPN. This is the Sencore TF30 Super Cricket Transistor and FET Tester. This tester can test transistors and FETs In-Circuit and determine if it is PNP/NPN. and . Additional tests, such as the basing of the leads, gain and leakage are possible out of circuit if there is still a problem. This video was prompted during the videoing of Part 3 of my repair of the JCPenney 1758 Stereo system, which had a transistor creating a lot of noise in the stereo's right channel. This video was made during that repair, but is released as a stand-alone video. In this video, we look at the basic operations of this tester, and use it to look at two transistors removed from the stereo. Using this we see that one of the transistors was bad due to leakage. That leakage explains a transistor which did amplify the signal, but also introduced an intolerable amount of noise. Sencore made several versions of the Cricket series; this one I believe had the most features and capabilities. I guess this was manufactured in the early 1970s but have not been able to confirm this.
