This gentleman's ear canal was completely blocked with ear wax. He had previously had ear irrigation attempted but with little benefit. His symptoms included earache (otalgia), ringing in the ear (tinnitus), occlusion (hearing internal sounds such as breathing and own voice much louder) and reduced hearing. It was incredible the amount of ear wax that was impacted within the ear canal. Fortunately the ear wax was relatively easy to remove with suction. Upon removal of the ear wax that is a little lump visible on the superior canal wall medially. The client has been referred to his GP but it his likely to either be an osteotoma (bone swelling of the canal), canal cholesteoma (collection of dead skin that has become infected - rare on ear canal) or a dermoid cyst (sac-like growth that is present at birth).
