Some protesters managed to reach central Bujumbura on Monday, which they had previously failed to do, prevented by a police and military presence. In the Musaga neighbourhood, where anti-government anger has been particularly intense, barricades were erected as police watched. At least six people have been killed in clashes with the police, according to the Burundi Red Cross.
