This fight was super fun. I initially messed around with this fight for a bit when I first got there before all the optional content. At first I took phase 1 slow, which made it REALLY slow, because of the really strong counterattacks. After like an hour long attempt I got rekt by the self destruct and the phase 2 transition (mind that one of the challenges is that further waves immediately get attacks on you). I then figured out a faster strat to kill phase 1 by resetting for earth weakness and bursting it with Anna. I use a refined version of that strat in the clear video as well. It took me another couple attempts to figure out the Enchant/Ancient Monolith/Auto-Revive setup for the transition, but I didn't see a good way to deal with all the really strong adds in phase 2 while actually dealing damage to the boss. I had the idea of scorching the boss to reduce its max HP, but I didn't really see a great way to keep that up. I then went and did a bunch of optional stuff (and took a break from the game for a couple months). Coming back I eventually found the Nanomachines trinket. I immediately gave that to NoLegs because of Nine Lives. NoLegs also happened to have Sharpen equipped, so I had the idea of using that to do the Scorch strat I'd thought of previously. I actually initially thought I'd get it to -80 HP with that, but it ended up capping at -50. That was a pretty big downside, as now I had to deal with another 10M health at the end, rather than 4M. Initially I started spamming PUMPKUS after getting to 50%, but the damage was too slow, I wasn't able to deal with the adds, and him regenning his max HP led to me having to deal with the low-relative-health stuff (more adds, the health drain, limit breaks). After that I tried harder to keep the Scorch up so he doesn't do that so easily, but I was still struggling to close it out. At the time I was using Lance to Blackhole away the two Evil Eyes (and also deal some damage to the tentacles). I realized that my best way of dealing with the adds (that mostly spawn one a turn) was already insta killing them with Natalie. That was actually entirely accidental, the Scythe just gives really good defensive stats, which is what she wants to have for this fight. I then gave her a hat that increased her effect activation chance (which made phase 1 harder because I was buffing less, which meant less damage), and just focused on doing that. That way I could save the limit break to burst down the ending. I also added extra Burn to the mix for extra damage over time, as well as Weak. The Weak was mostly to make the Dark limit break stronger, but the attack/magic debuff aspect of it was nice too. And since my strat revolved around spamming Sharpen anyway, I didn't have to work to keep those up. Figuring out how to deal with phase 2, as well as pulling that off, was extremely fun. I wasn't really a big fan of phase 1, it's just not that interesting. Almost all of its attacks are mostly the same, there aren't any adds, it doesn't really do any cool effects. It has the neat elemental weakness gimmick, but fighting it regularly was pretty dull to me, and the reset-for-earth-then-burst strat seemed a lot easier/faster. That strat was reasonably fun to do, but the resetting for it was annoying. The winning attempt happened when I had been awake for 21 hours, and it would have been my last attempt to phase 2. I had some tiredness mistakes as a result of that, but it ended up working out anyway. I could outline the entirety of the strat here, because this was the hardest boss, but I feel like that'd be a lot of text for what's ultimately not that interesting. Get as many of the relevant resists (dispel, stun, freeze, confuse) on the frontrow units (Matt, Natalie, NoLegs). The reason these three are in the front is because Natalie has the 7th Heaven Limit Break, NoLegs has the Nine Lives, and Matt for the Haste gain and good defense. Matt's in the bottom position because he doesn't have Confuse resistance. Then get the Scorch up and Sharpen. Natalie kills the adds and uses 7th Heaven. NoLegs repeats between Sharpen, Nine Lives, and Art Attack. The rest of the actions are used to use Apples to reduce NoLegs' cooldowns, heal, get rid of status effects, etc. Overall this boss was super fun for me, and is probably my favorite video game boss. Time: The actual attempting once coming back to the game took about four hours. I had already spent a couple hours on trying things out before then, but I don't really know how many, probably 2-3 or so.
