Nearly 8,000 feet high in the Eastern Sierra is a lake whose name may be as dramatic as the backdrop of towering peaks that surround it: Convict Lake. This lake, at 7,850-foot elevation, has easy access to picturesque Highway 395. It also boasts quality fishing, boating, camping and hiking. But it's that name that harkens back to a notorious incident that gave one of the tallest peaks, 12,241 foot tall Mount Morrison and the lake its respective names.
