Athabasca Glacier, Canada: Armchair Traveller with Inspiring Vacations

The Athabasca Glacier is one of six glaciers fed by the Columbia Icefield, the largest frozen ice mass south of the Arctic Circle. The icefield stretches into Jasper and Banff national parks, with Athabasca Glacier being the most accessible and therefore the most visited glacier in North America. Glaciers are constantly on the move causing new crevasses to form. Athabasca has receded in the past 125 years but at its thickest measures 300 meters. It currently loses about 5 metres per year. From May to September, visitors can ride aboard a snow vehicle and walk on 10,000-year-old ice; one adventure for the bucket list.
