Details of both can be found in the description below Announced some time ago, the PFB / KFA Warflats are now in stock. 4 different models sporting a variety of liveries and numbers are available. CAPFB(1) PFB MODA 95233 CAPFB(2) PFB MODA 95247 CAPFB(3) KFA MODA 95269 CAPFB(4) KFA MODA 95288 Unlike some other models of today, this one comes in a relatively small box. A two piece plastic insert holds the model securely for transit. This is the first time I’ve had a close look at a Cavalex model, and I can honestly say I’m really quite impressed!! For a small model they seemed to have packed in a lot of detail. Numbers and lettering on both sole bars and bogies Noticeable here are disc brake inserts to both front and the back of the wheel sets. Sprung buffers are fitted, as are NEM pockets for couplings on the bogies. Tension lock couplers are supplied, but are easily swapped out for Kadee if you so desire! Tie down hooks and rings a nicely modelled and could be used to secure a load of some sort. The model comes with a detail pack in the box, consisting of brake pipes and couplings. I really like the intricate details under the body, that of the air brake system. Distributor main res and associated pipe work. The jacking screws and end detail is also very nice! Similar wagons were built around the time of WW1 and WW2, and could have been considered for upgrade. It was however decided to build new wagons, the first batch, of which were constructed at Shildon works in 1976. These were TOPS coded PFB they had air brakes and vacuum through pipe. A second batch, also built at Shildon works, entered service in 1981. These were coded KFA with just the air braking system fitted. Photo evidence suggests that some where modified with vacuum through pipes? Or built with them? Built for the MOD, military vehicles were the primary load carried. Ammunition or crates supplies were also conveyed and later years they were occasionally in normal car traffic. Suitable military vehicles can be sourced in kit form from S&S Models. A link to their website is also linked in the description. Airfix used to produce some of the CVRT range of tanks, the Scimitar and Scorpion but have been out of production for some time.
