“Sandan no Hibiki” is an O-daiko (big drum) ensemble piece composed by Tomohiro Mitome. It draws on his vast experience playing the mighty O-daiko as a soloist on the Kodo stage, along with his years of teaching newcomers to play this instrument at Kodo Apprentice Centre. Sandan no Hibiki can be translated as “trinity of resonance.” This composition incorporates O-daiko phrases that Kodo apprentices learn during their training, and rhythms played on small taiko (ko-daiko, or shime-daiko) from traditional festival accompaniments such as Chichibu Yatai-bayashi from Chichibu in Saitama Prefecture, and Minakuchi-bayashi from Koka in Shiga Prefecture. It also has a range of other Japanese traditional music motifs woven into it. This new piece offers taiko players around the world the chance to play the O-daiko in a unique group formation, using their whole body and all their might. We hope you’ll enjoy exploring the physicality of this piece with your taiko team! ♬ Kodo "Sandan no Hibiki" See here for further details, including downloadable sheet music and reference videos: https://www.kodo.or.jp/en/about_en/ko... ♬ About Kodo One Earth Music https://www.kodo.or.jp/en/about_en/ko... ♬ Kodo One Earth Music Around the World We love seeing videos of people around the world playing Kodo One Earth Music.
