We set off up Loch morar on an adventure which tested us more than we had anticipated. The weather was hot and still when we left. Loch Morar and islands were stunning. We spent the night on Morar around a roaring fire, enjoying the views, great company, supplemented by wine and a bottle of rum. This made for a great evening. In the morning, heads still a bit fuzzy from the night before, the portage to Loch Nevis tested us to our limits. A hot and sticky ascent with five boats was difficult but fun in a strange twisted way. A late lunch stop at the Cairn and the only phone signal on the trip gave us a chance to message back home before the welcome descent to Loch Nevis and back to total isolation. We headed up Loch Nevis after visiting Tom McLean's 62 Ton steel whale that took him 20 years to build. Inverie's Longbeach campsite was our home for the next few days. A visit to The Old Forge, the UK's remotest mainland pub for some drinks before an early night. Refreshed in the morning we set of to Eas a' Chaorainn (Roughly translated; Mountain of the Rowan, Waterfall). It is purported to be the most remote swim spot in the UK. By then the it was a bit showery, but still warm. Arriving at the falls we spotted a large otter in the pool under the falls. After lunch we went for a swim in the chilly water of the Abhainn Inbhir Ghuiserein river. After changing in the rain we headed back to Inverie. The rain relentless by this point to have a refreshment in the locals pub/shelter. Dinner in the Old Forge that evening brought made our last evening one to remember. The next morning it was dry with a building wind from the SSW. Our trip back to Silversands of Morar to complete the loop seemed certain. After the adventure we had by the time we got back to Mallaig a few opted to end their adventure there while Dave and I completed the loop and returned with the cars to pick up the others at Mallaig. We went our separate ways but not before a superb pizza in the Crianlarich Hotel. I am sure it will not be long before our next adventure. Sláinte
