In the history of The NYPD, perhaps no precinct was more corrupt than The 30th Precinct of Harlem. There was a squad of cops which came to be known as "The Dirty 30" who were robbing and extorting drug dealers, stealing contraband from stash spots and reselling stolen drugs to other dealers. Two young officers named George Nova and Alfonso Compres were the most brazen of the bunch and were known as violent thugs who extorted and robbed with reckless abandon. The corruption went all the way up the ranks and Sergeant Kevin Nannery led a group of rogue officers known as Nannery's Raiders who were all involved in a robbery scheme. A young cadet named Barry Brown was recruited to go undercover as a mole in the precinct. After another police scandal in The 75th Precinct of East New York, Brooklyn brought widespread attention to the problem, The Mollen Commision was established to probe NYPD corruption. After Barry Brown appeared before the commission, he blew the 30th Precinct's corruption wide open. As a result of The Dirty Thirty scandal, The NYPD changed their recruitment protocols.
