Here and Now: Beyond Antiutopianism and Toward the Quotidian

This talk was delivered as part of the Lindon Barrett Award in Black Studies at the University of California, Riverside. The presentation explores how Black utopian thought reimagines political possibility beyond despair, exclusion, and static understandings of the present. Drawing from political theory, Black geographies, and utopian scholarship, I introduce the concept of the Black differential to examine how everyday life, dystopia, and hope are differently structured across social worlds.
