(500th video!!!) Chasing UP 844 on 7/19/12, Part 1. Cheyenne to Pierce (LOTS of pacing!)

After 4 weeks of driving east and staying in Massachusetts, it was time to head home! And luckily, the time we were heading home fell into the same time frame that UP 844 would be leaving Cheyenne for Denver with the Cheyenne Frontier Days train! So we decided to drive out to Cheyenne on the way back and we were able to chase the train almost the whole way to Denver! We followed it on US-85 for most of the trip, which runs right along side the UP mainline almost the whole way! This turned out to provide A LOT of awesome shots! Our first glimpse if the 844 that day was in downtown. The engine had coupled up to it's train and was slowly shoving it's way back to pick up passengers while a westbound UP manifest passed by. She certainly looked better than she did in November when she came to socal. because she was absolutely spotless! Then we made our way to the Southwest Drive crossing, where we saw it crossing under the BNSF mainline as it left town. We then had to drive over 30 miles on US-85 to get to the area where the tracks and the road ran along side each other. Luckily, we didn't have to wait for long for the 844 to show up. After the roll bye at Nunn, the pacing began! The 844 kept up a relatively consistant speed up until Pierce, Colorado where it had to slow down due to a yellow signal, so we used this opportunity to get ahead of it and get another roll-by of it. But this slow speed didn't last long because as soon as the 844 slowed down, it got a green signal, giving it the highball! The chase doesn't stop here! There will be MANY more shots of it to come, so stay tuned! This is also my 500th video!!! :D
