Balcones Rumble "Distilled Spirits Specialty" Review

Today we review another release from the Balcones Distillery...their Rumble!! Balcones is one of the most prominent names in the American craft whiskey scene. They started distilling in 2009 and released the first legal, Texas-made whiskey since Prohibition. This is not a whiskey, it is a spirit first distilled from fermented Texas wildflower honey, Mission figs and turbinado sugar, it is twice distilled in traditional copper pots then artfully matured in premium oak casks. The nose is really fruity and sugary sweet with a touch of cinnamon. The palate is very much dried fruit. The finish moves to a similar note from the single malt...dried apricot. With a small amount of water, the nose does change much but a touch of an oak note comes out. The palate really doesn't change but there is a slight burn that shows up. This is very interesting and different bottle from the Balcones Distillery...if you like fruity sweet flavors this is all you!
