BARRETT’S ESOPHAGUS Damage to the lower portion of the tube that connects the mouth and stomach (oesophagus). Barrett’s oesophagus is usually the result of repeated exposure to stomach acid. It’s most often diagnosed in people with long-term gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Frequent heartburn and chest pain are symptoms, but many people with Barrett’s oesophagus have no symptoms. Treatments include medical monitoring, medication and surgery. Rarely, it develops into oesophageal cancer. SHORT ESOPHAGUS Esophageal shortening occurs most commonly in patients with advanced reflux disease due to acid-related inflammatory changes in the muscular wall of the esophagus. On healing, this results in contracture. NON ROTATION OF THE MIDGUT Nonrotation of intestine is a congenital abnormality of the midgut which is due to error in the process of rotation. Errors in the 2nd and 3rd stage of rotation can lead to series of abnormalities in the form of malrotation and reversed rotation. #Barrettsesophagus
