The task was monumental, given the complex religious and cultural demographics of the regions. Radcliffe faced intense pressure and a tight deadline of just five weeks to draw the boundaries, which led to hasty and often arbitrary decisions. The lack of accurate maps and reliable census data further complicated the process. Additionally, the decisions were made in secrecy, without consulting local leaders or communities, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and displacement. The resulting border created intense communal violence, leading to the loss of lives and the migration of millions of people.
