Kokab Farshori Urdu VOA Washington - Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has said the United States should not have given any deadline for the withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan. In an exclusive interview with VOA Urdu Service the former President said the entire focus should be on achieving the goals in Afghanistan rather than looking for an exit strategy. Talking about President Obama's ongoing trip to Asia, he said the U.S. President should have included Pakistan in his itinerary. He said Pakistan is trying to recover from the worst natural disaster of its history and it would have been great for the U.S. image in Pakistan if President Obama had visited Pakistan, especially the flood-hit areas. The former President said drone attacks were a violation of Pakistan's sovereignty and they are causing great collateral damage which is proving to be counterproductive in the fight against terrorism. He said the United States should give the drone technology to Pakistani forces. He said as opposed to former Prime Ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif, who Musharraf himself offered political deals, he did not need any deal to return to Pakistan. He admitted making mistakes such as imposing the emergency on November 3, 2007 but said that now the country needs him as despite his mistakes, he could prove to be better for the country than other Pakistani leaders.
