Elvis Presley-Acting only(Film, TICKLE ME 1965)

Tickle Me is a 1965 American musical comedy-western directed by Norman Taurog and starring Elvis Presley as a champion rodeo bull rider and bronco buster. For this role, Elvis won the 1966 Golden Laurel Award for Best Actor in a Musical Motion Picture. It was the only Elvis film produced by Allied Artists Pictures, and saved the company from financial ruin and bankruptcy. The film grossed $5 million at the box office. For the first and only time, the soundtrack for a Presley film did not feature any new songs, but rather cuts from albums from the early 1960s. Some of these songs were overdubbed for the film; alternate takes were used for some songs ("I Feel That I've Known You Forever" features vocals that appear to have been recorded on a soundstage), and others ("I'm Yours") omitted the harmonies and narration from the original recordings. Presley never repeated the cost-saving practice of reusing old recordings. However, another song from the repurposed soundtrack, "(Such an) Easy Question," reached number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Easy Listening chart in July 1965. Julie Adams and Jocelyn Lane performed alongside Presley. The screenplay was written by Elwood Ullman and Edward Burns, who also wrote the screenplays for the Three Stooges short films and feature films and The Bowery Boys. They infused the film with a wealth of slapstick, visual gags, and humor not found in other Presley works. By mid-1964, Allied Artists was in financial trouble. Presley's management knew that Allied Artists president Steve Broidy wanted to support the studio's finances with revenue from Presley's new album. At Colonel Parker's suggestion, to cut costs, they used pre-released LP records instead of recording a new soundtrack, something that had never been done for Elvis's earlier films. The film was originally titled Isle of Paradise and the screenplay was written by Edward Burns and Elwood Ullman, who also wrote The Three Stooges and The Bowery Boys. Elvis was paid $600,000 for his appearances, plus $150,000 for expenses, and received a 50% share of the profits. The estimated production cost was $399,750, but ultimately cost $6,650 over budget, finishing at $406,400. This makes Tickle Me Presley's least expensive film to date. The film was produced by Allied Artists, but was actually shot at Paramount Pictures Studios, which Allied rented for the duration of filming. Filming took place over 23 days in October and November 1964, with two days of second-unit shooting. Howard Thompson of The New York Times called the film "the most ridiculous, weak, and boring film about the Memphis Wonder in a long time. Elvis and his then-sponsor, Allied Artists, should have been smarter." Variety magazine said the script was "thin," but that Presley was able to "effectively rock nine songs from his previous albums." Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times wrote of the film, "Poor color palette, tacky sets, copious amounts of stock footage, gaudy scenery, and unconvincing direction. But who's to complain when the movie is so much fun?" The Monthly Film Bulletin called the film "a very conventional Presley production" and "boring songs." However, the film was a huge box office success, grossing over $3 million in the United States and over $5 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film in Allied Artists' history and saving the studio from bankruptcy. #elvis #presley #epis #tickle #me #entertainment #Elvis #Presley #fans #rock #rocknroll #gospel #ballad #country #king #entertainment #handsome #cool #greatest #great #americandream #superstar #greatest #singer #1965s
