This park bench had seen better days. The client wanted to restore it and it looked like there was some restoration attempts previously, however it wasn't completed. My first choice initially for wood was Teak, however the price for board foot was too steep for this specific restoration ($25 bf). I went with my second choice, Ipe, and there was a learning curve in working with this species of wood. It was very dense and I could tell it wore down my planer blades. Splinters were another obstacle to overcome as it was very splintery and I had to pull out at least 5 splinters during the whole build process prior to sanding. Once sanded it was very smooth and beautiful to look at. On a side note, dust collection and wearing a respirator is a must if you're working with this wood as it leaves behind a yellowish tint on anything it gets on. Thanks for watching!!
