You never ever get up in the morning and expect something like that to happen but then some days it just does. I must have done a stupid amount of kayak trips at this point and never has this happened to me before so maybe I was due. At the end of the day we stayed calm, managed to save some of our gear and got back to shore safely, which is all that really matters. THE REASON FOR THE CAPSIZE and the hull filling with water was likely the bung not being done up correctly. The reason I thought the hull might have cracked was because I was fishing and perfectly buoyant for an hour and a half or so before I went down. My best guess for what happened is that the bung was loose, the back compartment filled with water and soaked my bag (adding weight) and some water was already in the hull from the chop. Cumulatively, this was enough to get the bung hole underwater and we went down quickly from there because I cannot find a crack but more testing is required. Anyway though, a scary experience but one I can definitely learn something from. Double checking the bung, buying new scupper plugs and adding a few pool noodles to the hull will be the name of the game now. Hope you guys enjoyed the episode and i'm very glad I was able to get some good footage for you guys because at the end of the day, what a cool story.
