Challenge playlist: • Fire Emblem Awakening HM - 0% growths in 7... A 0% growths run in Fire Emblem Awakening, played on Hard Mode. The game is modified so that each level-up results in no stat gains, greatly limiting the potential of the game's characters, especially growth units which is what most of them are to some extent. I first started this challenge about 2 years ago, unsure if the direction I was taking would be a successful one. I'd restarted it several times to change some things up (like the Avatar build), but never shared any recordings until now. Recently, I restarted the run and managed to completely catch up with the progress I'd made last time (getting to the midgame), with noticeable improvements in performance, such as getting Robin and Vaike to promotion much earlier. I wasn't sure if I should start the uploads now or wait until the challenge is ready, but knowing how luck-reliant some of my strategies get, that may take a while, and I figured I'd do a better job describing the tactics employed here while they're still relatively fresh in my memory. So, the ruleset... Low Turn Counts Aim for the lowest possible turn counts in every chapter - so far I have been quite happy about how I've delivered in this regard. Because every character's contributions matter, I don't see myself skipping any of them; however, I do not intend to do Donnel's chapter at all (it does present some nice items and exp opportunities) and I'm not sure if I will recruit Tiki - as good as she may be, surviving her chapter is promising to be quite a feat on 0% growths. played on Hard Mode Normal presents no notable challenge to speak of, while Lunatic isn't any LTC-friendly. I should think a much slower run of Lunatic can show a 0% growths possible, but I never cared to try. Hard Mode is, well, hard, and the lategame prospects are looking really grim with very few viable units to play with at that point. No Deaths No Spotpass Characters No Bonus Items No Logbook No Anna Shops No Barracks No Event Tiles for rare weapons Renown starts at 0 These are simple intuitive rules that ban the overpowered stuff and the really luck-reliant stuff while enabling the kind of run I want to have. MU creation: female, +mag, -lck. Female MU can marry Chrom provided they have activated C support and Chrom hasn't supported any other females (easy, because neither Chrom nor his potential wives can fight... at all) which results in passing one of MU's good skills (probably Solidarity) to Lucina. +spd Robin may be good for killing Validar, but +mag seriously helps with routing enemies early on as well as feeding exp to Robin. I've previously played with a male MU, thinking I'd marry him to Anna or Say'ri, but I overestimated the feasibility of growing their supports in an LTC context (it builds way too slowly) and their child would be atrocious at combat anyway. Premonition is cleared in 2 turns. The usual. Chrom and Robin will come back to this map later with far worse stats and a much more threatening Validar, which is something to worry about. Both Robin and Chrom must be trained for promotion for this very reason. Surviving Validar per se isn't impossible, but killing him quickly is a challenge. Forced into marriage, having an instant S-support should make their performance there much more competent. Prologue is cleared in 3 turns (5 total). Not a difficult chapter; Frederick joins the party and is ready to roll over the earlygame. I trade him Robin's Bronze Sword to merely weaken the Bandits attacking him, letting Robin grab the exp from them. Killing the last mage on the map is sketchy, but between Chrom's Rapier crit and the increased dual strike rate with Chrom's skill, it's worth restarting this chapter for this slightly unreliable strategy to grant Robin the much-needed early exp. The further we progress, the harder it is for Robin to level up. If we don't want to waste Silver Lance uses, both Mercs near the boss need to have 8 spd to be doubled by Chrom-supported Fred with the Bronze Sword. Chapter 1 is cleared in 3 turns (8 total). Not a tough chapter. Compared to my old run, Frederick gets far less action this time around, which I begin to regret later as Frederick has to reach A-rank in both lances and swords to add reliability to some bosskills in future chapters, and having Robin pretty much solo the map (paired up with Lissa of all characters) robs Frederick of chances to grind up sword rank here, which would let him focus on lances more next. Waiting on a fort, Robin's risk of death is low enough to ensure she handles most of the foes. +mag asset and Lissa pair-up let her 2HKO the mooks. Even Chrom gets some experience, getting ignored by the enemies in favour of Robin thanks to the defence bonuses from Frederick.
