A four-person pickpocket scheme caught on camera at the Lewiston Winco. Group members were seen following close behind shoppers before grabbing their wallets. "They're targeting a certain individual, taking their wallet, taking credit cards out of that, replacing the wallet back where they found it, and then going and using those credit cards," said Lewiston Police Capt. Jeff klone. Captain Klone says that most times the wallet gets put back, but not until after cards have been taken out. Police have also witnessed the other two members standing at the end of an aisle, acting as lookouts, while the others coordinate the pickpocketing. And he says in some cases, the pickpockets then went and bought thousands of dollars of jewelry with the stolen cards. While he says it is uncommon for our area to see such coordinated pickpocketing, this crew was believed to be seen throughout the region. "We've had reports that it also happened at Albertsons here in town and possibly one other location. And then we've received information from other police departments in the Valley, and outside of the Valley such as Clarkston and Pullman that they've had similar incidents with the same people," Capt. Klone said. Staying alert is the best way to protect yourself from this type of theft. That can be noticing if certain individuals are following you, or are standing too close behind. "Being aware of your surroundings, not carrying too many credit cards or any other ID in your wallet that you don't need to is a good idea as well," Capt. Klone said. The pickpockets are three men and one woman. The car they were seen using was an older model, white, Ford minivan, with another law enforcement agency reporting that the van was using a temporary Texas license plate. However, it is unknown if they are still using it. If you have any information, reach out to the LPD. If you get home or to the car and notice that your wallet, and or cards have been stolen, first call your card company to have the card put on hold or canceled, and then call the police. https://klewtv.com/news/local/pickpoc...
