RISD Architecture Faculty Conversation 1: Amelyn Ng and Jess Myers
Rhode Island School of Design implemented a campus-wide social equity and inclusion initiative in 2017. In the summer of 2020, in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, RISD students formed risdARC—the RISD anti-racism coalition—organizing and advocating for decolonizing art and design curricula at the college. In the Fall of 2021, RISD Architecture welcomed seven new faculty members with expertise in racial, social, and environmental justice. In this video RISD Architecture Assistant Professors Amelyn Ng and Jess Myers discuss the politics of representation, the structure of architectural practice, the culture of critique, architecture and labor, Amelyn's interest in cartooning and BIM (building information modeling), and Jess' podcast on issues of urban security.
