#texasstyletuesday soldiers on, my friends. Open, closed, socially distanced, curbside takeout only, it doesn’t matter here. We continue playing breakdowns under just about any circumstances. With the occasional rag, polka, and the even less occasional waltz. Seems weird that I’d be so attached to a genre that doesn’t really give a damn about a waltz. One of the best things that ever happened to me was when Royce Franklin asked me to play a waltz, in an actual Texas style jam. Bet that didn’t happen often. I took it as a compliment. In any case, back to the breakdown at hand. This is Grey Eagle and I’ve never once played it in a contest, and maybe never in a jam. So how do I even know it? Well, I have taught it a few times and that’s the thing about doing the same thing for 40 years. Eventually you just absorb these melodies - sort of musical osmosis. I kind of like it. That repeating 3rd position thing gets on my nerves after a while but I do like trying to think of things to do in the arpeggio-ish B part. I wonder if this is tune I could get excited about somehow. Have you ever dismissed a tune until you heard someone play a ridiculously good and creative version of it and then all of a sudden it seems like the greatest tune ever? I feel like @kimberludiker plays the hell out of this. I should go check that out and see if it does the trick. In the meantime, I hope you’re all doing well. We’re staying in a while longer, even though our state appears to be opening back up.
