The question of whether there's a Hell or not for the badniks shown in most of of the Sonic games has been a hotly debated topic on fan forums for years. Vague evidence was first discovered by a user on SonicBros.net in 2001[7] . The user, who's name only appears as Guest now on the forum archives, said that they got their hands on a lot of old documents for Sonic the Hedgehog, the first game in the franchise. In it, they noticed amongst the notes written in Japanese were the words "HELL", "DEVIL", and "SOUL" written in capitalized English several times. Only one page was written completely in English, consisting of the sentence "THERE IS NO HEAVEN FOR THEM. THERE IS NO HEAVEN FOR US." written over and over while the handwriting (confirmed to be Yuji Naka's) got worse and worse with each attempt[8]. Members of the forum quickly translated the other documents in question, coming to the conclusion that it was mostly gibberish and that it was likely the person who acquired the documents was pulling a big hoax on everyone[9]. Despite their disbelief, the translated documents were soon leaked across the internet. Their authenticity was proven in 2003, leading many to believe that SEGA was into the occult around the time of the Sega Genesis' release[10]. Many complex theories arose about how and why the documents were written. Those who don't take the documents seriously at all like to believe that Yuji Naka was just high at the time of writing them, and kept them as a joke. Most, however, believe that he dabbled into something supernatural in order to create Sonic the Hedgehog. The most popular theory out there suggests that the badniks, the name of the many robotic enemies Sonic faces throughout his adventures, have actual souls. The theory is supported by many parts written within the documents that imply they are not what they seem, which such examples as "THE ONES YOU FACE ARE CLOSER TO HUMAN THEN YOUR TV WILL EVER BE" and "BEING A MECHANICAL BEING MEANS BEING A LIVING BEING". The theory also believes that there is no heaven for these souls trapped inside the game, just a hell, as proven by the English page mentioned earlier. It also explains why the small creatures pop out of any badnik Sonic destroys, as they were put in there by Yuji Naka who felt guilty for damning so many souls, and wished to believe that the little animals would whisk the badniks' souls away to a better place. It is hard to say whether this effort was futile or not, although many believe that it was[11]. See Also: -Hell in Sonic Fanon • End Credits
