On February 19, 2026, Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island produced a moderately explosive eruption from its summit crater at approximately 4:38 PM local time. The eruption lasted about two minutes and generated a dark gray ash plume rising roughly 2,000 meters above the crater before drifting southwest. Pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), or “uson,” were observed descending the southern and southwestern upper slopes within about 1 kilometer of the summit. These fast-moving, ground-hugging flows pose one of the most serious volcanic hazards. PHIVOLCS maintains Alert Level 2 over Kanlaon, indicating moderate unrest. Entry into the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone remains strictly prohibited due to the risk of sudden explosive activity, ashfall, rockfalls, and pyroclastic flows. This video captures the explosive phase and ash plume development during today’s event.
