I used to think being delusional was a bad thing. But the older I get, the more I realise I was wrong… so wrong. For years, I thought being “realistic” was a strength. Keep your feet on the ground. Don’t get ahead of yourself. Don’t dream too big. It sounds sensible. It’s also how a lot of people quietly talk themselves out of the life they actually want. After building a business from zero all those years ago and getting it wrong more times than I can count, here’s what I’ve noticed: Every meaningful result I’ve ever had started with a slightly delusional belief. Believing I could build a food service business with no connections in a brutal market. Believing someone would say yes when I knocked on yet another café door. Believing this would work even when there was no evidence it would. That belief didn’t make the work easier. It just made the work possible. Delusion, when used properly, isn’t denial. It’s choosing belief before proof. The practical kind of delusion looks like this: trusting yourself before the results show up backing your vision before others understand it staying in the fight when logic says you should quit Most people wait for confidence to arrive. It doesn’t. Confidence is built by acting slightly irrational for longer than feels comfortable. If you’re building something right now and it feels unrealistic, awkward, or even a bit embarrassing to say out loud, you’re probably closer than you think. I’m curious to hear from you. What’s one big goal or belief you’re holding back on because it feels “too delusional” to talk about or admit? Drop it in the comments.
