I could've just said, "Mark Speer plays funky 16th note sort of stuff in C Minor Pentatonic Position 1". And while that is technically correct, it's not exactly teaching it. You may be new to this kind of guitar playing vocabulary, and the only way to learn this style of playing is by studying it properly first. Then, when you hear this kind of playing again by another artist, you'll know roughly what they're doing. But with this video, whether you want to learn the whole thing or just a few bits that you've always wondered how to play, you can do as much or as little as you want. There are time stamps on the tab every 8 bars to help you locate whereabouts in the track we are. Would I would memorise every single note of this entire song for a gig? Almost definitely not. First and foremost, I would make sure I at least know the structure really well. Then I would pick out things I felt were really cool or important and make sure I put them in the right place. I'd only learn it note for note if someone was paying me VERY good money! Mark Speer is just jamming this every time he plays it. He's got the style in mind that he wants to play with, and he knows all where the important hits and cues are. Then he just adds little flourishes as he sees fit. I've got my standard Mark Speer tone, using the 'EQ Wah' as opposed to the real wah. The only difference/new addition is that I've got my guitar going through a phaser pedal on Logic.
