#Parrotlets #Parrots are exceptional! They are adorable, easy to take care of and full of life. Yes, they make great pets, great apartment pets too, but people sometimes say that you can't have more two because they'll hurt each other! Where is the logic in that? You can't put two of ANY animal together without taking steps and watching to ensure that they get along: Parrotlet parrots are no exception. Steps you must take: 1 Provide ample space: As with any animals, whether they get along or not, you have to make sure that they have enough space. The cage requirements for a Parrotlet need to be increased if you are planning to have two Parrotlets together, and need to be increased again for any additional Parrotlet. 2 Match Ages: Like so many parrots, Parrotlet parrots can't be put together safely if their ages don't match. In other words, a young parrotlet, a baby or an adult are three age groups that need to be kept separate. In exotic bird stores, larger parrots are generally kept in their own cages unless they came from the same nest box. This is interesting because there is a natural awareness that the larger parrots may have issues and fight, but it isn't always applied to smaller parrots, like Parrotlets. You can say that Parrotlets have stronger personalities than other parrots and should, therefore, be kept apart. However, I would disagree. I have other parrots, like my Green-cheeked Conures, that can be put in a cage with others and then I have individuals who are too territorial or aggressive. 3 Meet Their Needs For Safety & Security Providing ample feeding stations is one obvious way to set your Parrotlets up to feel safe and secure; so is giving them perches, swings, toys and such. Often two Parrotlets will get along. If that is the case, they can generally share a food dish - although I make sure that my parrots feel there is ample food for them. Different individual parrots may have different needs to help them feel at ease and as though they have what they want/need to experience wellbeing. Making sure that my Parrotlets have anything they may need is how I set up my aviaries for them and I have three with over 10 Parrotlets each. There are times when a Parrotlet is to aggressive, which I find correlates to their youthful age. When that is the case, I can't always leave them in the aviary. I also find Parrotlets that don't seem to hold their own, they cower at the bottom of the cage. They too can't live in the aviary. Observing your Parrotlets, or your parrots or animals, is the only way to take care of them. Their needs can change and, as a Parrotlet keeper, I feel it is my responsibility to keep up with my birds and continue to recreate their living circumstances as best I can so that they can be a happy flock -- without issues. And with two or more Parrotlets living together happily and more naturally (since they are flock animals). ---
