Take One for the Team (David Knopfler) - Music Video

Video directed by: Chaz Parvez Starring Mike Kelson and Holly-Marie Michael This video was created by director Chaz Pervez and is a thoughtful and rather accurate interpretation of my song "Take One for the Team." It's always interesting to me to see how a director's interpretation of one of my songs varies from my own imaginings. They rarely chime with my own, but then that's not much different (except on a much more modest scale) to what happens when a novel is turned into a film. Or even when a reader imagines the characters and judges them when reading from the written page. There's a reason they often keep the original author off the set. The "Take One from the Team" video is one of the closest and most accurate renditions of my intention that I've seen created. To quibble, I'd probably have been a great deal less sympathetic to the barmaid: I'd have created a sense of irony about her claim "I'm in a different world" and made it about her subjective (and more dubious) coldly calculated idea to have moved up in her social standing, but making it about her relationship with her daughter and putting her daughter first, which I never would have thought of, was sharp. Then again, my characters were (in my imagination) much younger and it's more real and honest to have depicted them as this Director has chosen to. I'd likely have been more ambiguous about the nature of their relationship, and I'd have made the line about "New York's Darkest Halloween" nighttime-- more brutal and bloodied-- but if I'd directed it, it would never have been as polished nor as essentially kind to the characters. The general theme here is more than generously covered and the crow linkage was a brilliant touch. Fantastic job by Parvez.
