DRM Cutting completed a concrete cutting and coring scope in Downtown Toronto (110 Spadina Ave) to support a structural modification: removal of a load-bearing corner concrete column after engineered shoring was installed. Phase 1 — Concrete Coring (enabling step): • 4 × 12-inch core holes through the roof slab (1 shift) • Roof slab thickness: ~12 inches (see tape-measure photo) • Generator mobilized due to limited on-site power capacity • Core capture/containment to protect finished areas below Phase 2 — Column Removal (weekend execution): • Column size: 600 × 600 mm (≈ 24” × 24”), height removed ~3.5 m (≈ 11’ 6”) • Heavy reinforcement (perimeter verticals incl. six 1-inch bars) • Wire sawing was considered, but revised shoring geometry eliminated safe access — executed a controlled score-and-break removal sequence instead • Removed material: ~4.6 tonnes (concrete + steel) • Haul-out: buckets to freight elevator, full cleanup and disposal If your project involves structural sequencing, downtown logistics, or scopes that require both cutting and coring, send photos/drawings and constraints — we’ll map the safest method and execute clean. #concretecutting #gta #concretecoring
