How Indians destroyed Janata Curfew | IndiaThinks | Nishan Chilkuri reports

Host: Nishan Sampreeth Chilkuri (@nishanchilkuri) Several Indians across the country came out into the streets at 5 pm on Janata Curfew Day. They clapped, played music, jumped, danced, took out processions, and sang 'Go Corona, Corona Go'- thereby defeating the entire purpose of the curfew. What was supposed to be a dignified show of appreciation for medical and emergency workers who are putting their lives on the line, unfortunately, turned into a festive parade. It is being said that people were misled by Whatsapp forwards stating that 'sound waves' and 'vibrations' were going to kill the virus. Some even claimed that NASA satellites had detected the sound waves in India. Italy, Iran, Spain, and UK have seen a sharp jump in the number of Coronavirus cases only because social distancing wasn't effectively followed. India cannot afford to make that mistake considering the sheer size of the population, and also the condition of the health system. Several chief ministers of various states have now instituted curfews and lockdown, which will be enforced by the police. The gravity of the situation must not be ignored.
