Dual sport and adventure riding is cerebrally satisfying. For me, cities have become a corporate cliche – the pressure of too many people too close together competing for resources. With the faint odor of desperation lingering around me, lineups, crowds and ticket windows are decaying my soul, one depressing transaction at a time. Unfortunately, dual sport and adventure riding contains the word adventure, a word that has become lost with overuse. If coming from the street, you may feel, and rightly so, that adventure bikes are a safer option. Adventure and dual sport riding off the beaten path, there is surely less traffic and because of this, you have more control over negative outcomes. Rather than having your fate intertwined with left turning soccer moms screaming at their sticky brood of entitled rug rats, your future is somewhat in your own hands. If you crash, you have nobody to blame but yourself. It is the opportunity to go somewhere different and meet different people along the way. Riding a dual sport or adventure bike allows me to stretch my legs and ride in an unfamiliar place where history comes alive around me - the bridges, the buildings and the towns I ride through tell an interesting story of the past. If you have been riding dirt for most of your life, it is near impossible to let go. After riding countless hours on your dirt bike in extreme terrain with zero traction, riding an dual sport and adventure bike is easy. And street bikers, don’t take this as an insult, but 90% of dirt bikers can scare the death out of you on an dual sport and adventure bike - so don’t be naive enough to follow them into a trail.
