Glen Eyrie Castle is a breathtaking historic estate built for General William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs. It is located just north of Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs. The original home, built in 1871, was a 22-room wood-frame house. The structure evolved into a stone castle by 1903, inspired by English architecture. Today, the castle is owned and operated by the Navigators and serves as a conference center and retreat location. There are also guided tours of the castle and afternoon tea. The castle is known for its grandeur and also its advanced 19th-century engineering, including a weather monitoring system, elevator, electric intercom, and fire hoses on each floor—added after Palmer’s Antlers Hotel burned down in 1898. In addition to guided tours, Glen Eyrie Castle hosts an afternoon tea, offering rotating seasonal menus and an array of flavorful teas. After the tour and/or tea, visitors can explore the scenic Glen Eyrie grounds, which include hiking trails, a schoolhouse, a rose garden, and a historic creamery built by Palmer for his ailing daughter Marjory, who had tuberculosis. A visit to Glen Eyrie Castle is a fascinating step back in time and a must-see for any Colorado traveler. Please LIKE 👍, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more Colorado content.
