A visit to Fort Pierce | Kayaking Florida's Treasure Coast | Dolphin and Manatee Spotting

After our recent visit to Vero Beach on Florida's Treasure Coast, we wanted to explore more of the area's special gems, on December 12th we visited Fort Pierce to paddle part of the Indian River along the Fort pierce Inlet Recreation Area. We had planned to paddle north between Jack island and Wildcat Cove Preserve and were hoping to spot some marine life such as dolphin and possibly some manatee. Fort Pierce, often called the Sunrise City, has been the hub of St. Lucie County, Florida for more than 100 years. Situated on the Treasure Coast, named after the famed sinking of a Spanish treasure fleet in 1715, Fort Pierce is one of the oldest communities on the east coast of Florida.
