Dr. Reinhorn describes what an inguinal hernia is. He then explains the various ways that an inguinal hernia can be repaired as well as why he often recommends the fast recovery inguinal hernia surgery. Over 800,000 patients undergo inguinal hernia repair in the US every year. Recent data has demonstrated that there some repairs are better than others. Specifically, placing mesh under the abdominal muscles is better than between the muscle layers. Performing inguinal hernia surgery with local anesthesia with IV sedation is better than with general anesthesia. For some patients a “no mesh” on “non-mesh” inguinal hernia repair may be better. In this video Dr. Reinhorn explains the differences between the different types of repairs. Since 2002 Dr. Reinhorn has exclusively performed inguinal hernia surgery by placing a mesh under the muscles. Dr. Reinhorn initially performed this “posterior” repair under general anesthesia laparoscopically, and in 2004 switched to being able to perform this repair with local anesthesia and IV sedation using the fast recovery inguinal hernia repair. Dr. Reinhorn has been performing inguinal hernia surgery in the metropolitan Boston area since 2001 and has performed over 3000 hernia operations since then. Learn more at https://bostonhernia.com
