The Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation, Lipsi, Greece, 2021 Η ιστορία του Ερευνητικού Σκάφους Aegean Explorer - για ελληνικά δείτε εδώ / 312216935877... As the human impact on our seas intensifies every year, it is imperative to increase the effectiveness of the work of Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation for the protection of our seas. The new research vessel ‘Aegean Explorer’, plays an essential role in this great effort. It is an old but very well built boat that has been traveling the seas for almost 50 years. Renovations and upgrades were carried out without any public funding, instead using Archipelagos’ own resources and through the great work of all those who constitute our team. This could not have happened without the passion, dedication, and commitment from friends, supporters and the team of Archipelagos; people who share with us the same concern for the future of our seas. An important aspect of the Aegean Explorer's conservation efforts is providing real-world and applicable training to young scientists from the world's leading universities. The aim of the Aegean Explorer is to sail to as many areas of the Aegean and the NE Mediterranean as possible, to carry out field research on marine ecosystems, always in close cooperation with the local communities. This gives us the opportunity to communicate in real time, the results of the research with the communities that will be the most directly affected. Working together, we will continue recording and understanding the causes of these problems, in order to develop immediate and contextually-relevant solutions that are adapted to the needs of each place.
