The Albonakopf. Arlberg massif. Austrias most beautiful (and gnarliest) mountain. For almost 20 years this mountain has been an inspiration — and an intimidation. As a kid I would stare at this beautiful, terrifying titan and wonder what it would feel like to stand on top… and drop in. Finally, together with Joshua Braun, it was time to make that dream become reality. We climbed the Albonakopf and I skied the direct approach of the East Face — a line that has likely only been done once before. • Up to 60° steep • 30 meter cliffs below the upper section • A pure no fall zone • Technical spines • Mandatory bottom cliff On a mountain like this, falling is not an option. The scariest moment of my life was standing above that drop, realizing how small I truly am. Everything went to plan — until after the final cliff. One wind drift. One turn too late. Only one decision left. This line was the steepest and most dangerous I’ve ever skied — and maybe ever will. For me personally, crossing the finish line before the crash made it a huge success. Sometimes overcoming fear matters more than perfection! Enjoy the ride.
