Konnichiwa! Rippei, Ranjo, and Shoji brands are all well-respected shinobue brands in Japan, and today I am showing you what each one of mine sounds like. They are all 8 hon choshi shinobues. This is NOT a brand comparison. It is more like "Show and Tell". Although each brand holds its standard, every shinobue made of bamboo is unique, since every bamboo is unique. That means someone else's Rippei might sound very different from the one I am showing here, for example. 00:00 Every bamboo flute is unique, this is not a brand comparison. 01:02 Rippei, Ranjo and Shoji Brands: Appearance 02:49 Playing Rippei Shinobue 04:51 Playing Ranjo Shinobue 05:09 The lowest note with Ranjo and Rippei shinobues 06:28 Kan on (High notes) with Ranjo Shinobue 06:46 Playing Shoji Shinobue (My fav) Out of the three brands, the Rippei brand might be most readily available outside of Japan. The founder of the Rippei brand is a relatively young person who is very active in social media. They have innovative shinobues. Ranjo brand is the oldest of the three. Ranjo brand is known to be the first brand to create Doremi cho back in the 1970s. Until then, shinobue only had Koten type and Uta type. The artisan of the Shoji brand, Mr. Shoji, lives in the countryside of Northern Japan. He has no website and does not market his shinobues. His shinobues are spreading in Japan from word of mouth and by the professionals who use them. Unlike other shinobue brands, his shinobues do not have his name or signature written on them. But the sound of his shinobues is so unmistakable that they don't need any signatures. ***For a free shinobue buying guide and a list of free online shinobue tutorials from Japanese shinobue masters that are easy to understand for non-Japanese speakers, please visit saitomusic.com/japanese.*** 🇯🇵 Born and raised in Yokohama, Japan, I play Shinobue (Japanese Bamboo Flute), Koto (6 Ft. 13 string instrument), piano, sing and compose.
